Do you have a craving for some great beer and German food? If you’re in the South Bay this October, be sure to check out Campbell’s own Oktoberfest on October 15-16. The event will offer German foods such as Bratwurst, sauerkraut, pretzels and German potato salad. It also promises a wide variety of beers and ales, over 100 artisans and entertainers including headliners Alpiners USA.
The original “Oktoberfest” occurred in Munich, Germany then known as Bavaria) on October 18, 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The soldiers of the Price’s National Guard decided that horse races would be a splendid way to commemorate the event. The races became an annual event combined with the agricultural state fair celebrating the harvest the following year. Surprisingly, it wasn’t until 1818 what booths serving food and drinks were set up during Oktoberfest. And it was even later on that the booths grew into beer halls or tents, which Oktoberfest is traditionally known for. Today, Oktoberfest is a festival celebrated annually worldwide as a day to drink, eat and be merry.
Campbell’s Oktoberfest is no exception with a beer zone and plenty of food to choose from. Their aim is to be as authentic to the event’s German roots as possible. So many performers will be dressed up in traditional Bavarian clothing right down to lederhosens. Traditional European band Alpiners USA will perform selections from Bavaria, Austria, Italy and Switzerland, among others. The event will also be part of a National Stein Holding Competition sponsored by Samuel Adams. The competitions are held in beer halls throughout the United States and Europe. Oktoberfest promises plenty of accordions and over 100 arts and crafts vendors present and a children’s play area, so everyone is sure to find some entertainment at Campbell’s Oktoberfest.
What are you waiting for? Get out your stein and mark your calendar for October 15-16. Get ready for a great day of food, drinks and fun. Proust!
